The Silver Temple - Wat Sri Suphan
Updated: Jul 23, 2019
The silver temple is located just outside the walls of the Old Town on the south side.
Since the temples original construction in 1501, the temple has been renovated and redesigned multiple times. Rather than using standard temple renovation techniques, this temple has utilized the skill and knowledge of local silversmiths. The result is a silver-colored building that shimmers in the sunlight and is full of intricate details.
During your visit, you can watch these workers in their local shops in the surrounding areas.
Something to be aware of: Unfortunately no ladies are allowed inside.
A description outside the temple reads:
Beneath the base of Ubosotha in the monastic boundary, many precious things, incantations, amulets and other holy objects were buried 500 years ago. Entering inside the place may deteriorated the place or otherwise the lady herself. According to this Lanna Belief, ladies are not allowed to enter the Ubosotha.
Whether or not you're allowed to go inside, it's still worth a visit.
