3 Things to Know Before Visiting Temples in Chiang Mai
Updated: Jul 23, 2019
There are a plethora of beautiful temples filled with history and monks in Ching Mai, Thailand. Exploring temples big and small can be a great free (most of the time) way to fill your day. Before you leave to venture around exploring temples, there are a few things you should know.
1. Look up the rules of a temple before leaving.
Some of the temples have specific requirements and restrictions. For example, The Silver Temple does not allow females to enter inside. Be sure to know what you are getting into before you make the journey to visit.
2. Remove shoes before entry.
You will notice shoes on the steps leading up to the entrance of each temple. Shoes are not allowed inside the temples. Be respectful and please remove your shoes before entering.
3. Cover your knees and shoulders.
Though you will not be shamed for showing your limbs, it is frowned upon. It is a matter of respect. Make sure to be aware and conscious of the Thai culture before marching into a temple. Dress modestly and cover up your knees and shoulders.
